Puerto Rico features hundreds of beaches, both on the mainland and on its surrounding islands, and each is appealing in its own right. When planning your next trip to the island, consider the following suggestions.

1. Playa Flamenco
Located on the island of Culebra, Playa Flamenco is known for the clarity of its water and uncrowded beaches. Guests benefit from lifeguards on duty and a selection of facilities for camping on the beach.

2. Playa Negrita
Visitors will find this unique beach on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques. As its name hints, black sand covers the coastline. In addition to spending time by the water, many visitors hike in the surrounding jungle.

3. Punta Tuna Beach
Located on the east coast of Puerto Rico, Punta Tuna Beach includes a lighthouse with views of the nearby mountains. Palm trees line the coastline, and the sand varies in hue, from white to golden orange, as well as the occasional patch of black sand.
